St. George Church

St. George Orthodox Church is a vibrant parish under the Southwest American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. Today, about 105 families come together in faith and fellowship, worshiping in the rich and ancient Orthodox traditions passed down by the fathers of the Church.

The parish traces its beginnings to 1989, when, with the blessing of His Grace Thomas Mar Makarios, it was officially named St. George Malankara Orthodox Church. Rev. Fr. E.M. Philip served as the first vicar, followed by years of dedicated leadership from Rev. Fr. C.G. Thomas, Rev. Fr. Thampan Varghese, and currently Rev. Fr. John Kunnathusseril, who has guided the parish since 2019. Each shepherd’s service has helped strengthen and grow the community spiritually and socially.

A major milestone came in 1998 when the parish purchased 2.26 acres of land, laying the foundation stone for their new church with the blessing of His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews II. The completed church was consecrated in 2006 by His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Didymus I, joined by Metropolitans Mathews Mar Barnabas and Zacharia Mar Nicolovos. Since then, the parish has continued to expand its grounds, adding adjacent land in 2009 and again in 2015 with plans for a parish hall, creating a lasting home for worship and fellowship.

The church campus, now more than 3.5 acres, includes the sanctuary, a renovated parsonage, and space set aside for future growth. Beyond the buildings, though, it is the people—their prayers, traditions, and service—that have truly shaped St. George Orthodox Church into a spiritual family.

Today, the parish remains a beacon of Malankara Orthodox tradition in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Through liturgy, sacraments, Sunday School, and fellowship, it continues to preserve the deep faith of its founders while serving the needs of its growing community. St. George Orthodox Church stands as a reminder of resilience, dedication, and God’s providence, uniting families under the guidance of Christ and the intercession of St. George.
